WeatherTech’s BumpStep family of products offers a hitch-mounted solution to protect against distracted, careless drivers – those who may ding, dent or scratch your bumper and leave you with costly damage and wasted time on repairs.
BumpStep
BumpStep is a trailer hitch-mounted bumper protector available in two widths: 12" and 24" (BumpStep XL), that defends your truck or SUV against rear end accidents, dents and scratches. Both options are molded from two proprietary resins for added strength and impact resistance.
The base is molded from a sturdy material that resists flexing, while the second layer is a softer, impact absorbing material, lessening the blow caused by minor accidents. You will be happy to have it when that stray grocery cart or hard-to-see fire hydrant shows up!
As a secondary benefit, and as the name implies, BumpStep doubles as a step, helping you reach your vehicle’s roof. BumpStep can support up to 300 lbs., providing you access to a roof rack, bike or kayak, or to wash the roof of your vehicle and brush off snow.
For standard SUVs and trucks, choose regular BumpStep, and for larger vehicles, choose BumpStep XL to protect a greater portion of the vehicle’s bumper.
BumpStep Hardware Options:
We offer the BumpStep with a choice of two different hardware configurations:
Standard Hardware
- Includes zinc plated hardware with a standard hex head bolt (fits 15/16" socket), nut, flat washer and lock washer.
Theft Deterrent Hardware
- Stainless steel theft deterrent 1/2" Allen Key bolt to help prevent theft of your BumpStep XL.
- Stainless nut, flat washer and lock washer to further resist rust/corrosion even in the worst of environments.
BumpStep
Insert the BumpStep into the 2" receiver hitch on your vehicle at the most desirable position. Then install the hardware and securely tighten the bolt. The secure mounting design holds the BumpStep firmly inside the receiver to reduce flexing and movement. There are four possible mounting positions to allow for proper installation depth on virtually all receivers.
Note: If your BumpStep has been involved in an impact or accident it is important to have it inspected for cracks or fractures prior to placing any weight or loads upon it. Please send it to WeatherTech, BumpStep Inspection, 1 MacNeil Court, Bolingbrook, IL 60440 and we will be happy to inspect it and advise you if it needs to be replaced.

WeatherTech Direct, LLC warrants that products purchased directly from WeatherTech Direct, LLC or its authorized retailers are free from defects in materials and workmanship under normal use for the lifetime of the original purchaser, and only for the original vehicle in which they were installed.
